National Honor Society for Dance Arts

What is the National Honor Society for Dance Arts (NHSDA)?

Founded in 2005, the National Honor Society for Dance Arts (NHSDA) celebrates the artistic and academic achievements of exceptional dance students.

What is the benefit of being inducted into the NHSDA?

Student induction into the NHSDA is awarded on the basis of points earned for meritorious work in dance. Other factors may include the following: dance class grade point average, cooperative teamwork, motivation, outreach, choreography, performance, teaching and production. Inductees receive a gold pin and Certificate of Membership, added prestige in scholarship applications and future resumes, wear NHSDA honor cords during graduation ceremonies and are eligible to apply for the NDEO Artistic Merit, Leadership and Academic Achievement Award.

Eligibility?

  • Any enrolled student at RHS who is a Junior or Senior

  • Induction into NHSDA Secondary Program is earned through the accumulation of 30 points awarded for meritorious work in dance that meets the honor society’s general guidelines. (See NHSDA National Induction Point System)

  • Students must meet a minimum GPA requirement of 3.0 and demonstration of character, manifested through collaborative teamwork, motivation, and leadership in the many aspects of dance that may include choreography, performance, teaching, and production.

More information can be found in the RHS NHSDA Bylaws: (click the red button)

How to Apply:

  1. Print the Bylaws and sign your name at the bottom.

  2. Print the application materials. The materials are the “NHSDA National Induction Point System”, the “Student Induction Rubric”, the "NHSDA Application Timeline", and "The Hours Log" (click the button links below #4)

  3. Go to www.nhsda-ndeo.org and click on the “Find Your Chapter” part of the website to search for “Rolesville High School” (you can search by name or location) and complete the online application. YOU'LL MOST LIKELY HAVE TO USE A COMPUTER TO DO THIS. CELL PHONES DO NOT ALWAYS WORK.

  4. Return your application materials to Mrs. Owens.

*Please Note: On average it takes about one full year to earn enough points (30 points) for induction at the high school age level for a serious, dedicated dance student. A student who approaches dance on a more part-time basis may take up to two years to qualify for induction.

Since our chapter is new (starting in the Fall of 2016), student dance activities from the summer before school started can count towards points.
